What does Jarro-Zymes® Plus do?

Jarro-zymes plus® contains porcine pancreatic enzymes because their composition is similar to that of  human pancreatic enzymes and are superior to vegetable enzymes.* Alpha galactosidase is produced by single cell fermentation and facilitates digestion of legumes.*

Porcine pancreas contains a complex of natural enzymes including Protease, Amylase, Lipase, Trypsin, Chymotrypsin, Esterase, Peptidase, Nuclease, Elastase, Collagenase.

Who Can Benefit From this Product?

The body’s own production of digestive enzymes can decline with age, while at other times normal levels may need a boost after eating significant quantities of particular foods. Jarro-Zymes® Plus can help promote smooth digestion and facilitate digestive comfort in such cases.*

What Distinguishes this Product?

• Similar to Human Pancreatic Enzymes
• Richer in Lipase Than Other Pancreatic Supplements
• Superior to Vegetable Enzymes
• Facilitates the Digestion of Legumes*

How Do the Active Ingredients Function in this Product?

Pancreatin:   Supports healthy digestion and comfort*

Lipase:   Promotes the digestion of fat*

Amylase:   Promotes the digestion of starches*

Protease:   Promotes the digestion of protein*

Alphagalactosidase:   Promotes the digestion of beans and legumes, modulating gas production, and supporting abdominal comfort*

Alphagalactosidase:   Support Inflammation Health*

Jarro-Zymes® Plus

Many digestive enzymes are produced by the pancreas, and each has specific functions. Lipases are digestive enzymes that are widely distributed in the plant world, milk products, bacteria and molds. Lipases aid in fat digestion by hydrolyzing fat in the small intestine. Amylases are a class of enzymes that break down starch and complex carbohydrates into useable sugar molecules. Proteases are a class of enzymes that hydrolyze the peptide bonds that link amino acids together into polypeptides and proteins. These three classes of enzymes are critical to our body’s ability to convert the food we eat into the energy and nutrients needed to survive and thrive.*

Reduced or Impaired Digestive Enzyme Production
Both human and animal research has demonstrated that the levels of digestive enzymes produced by the pancreas decrease with age. Suboptimal pancreatic function—caused by pancreatic and non-pancreatic disorders—may also cause impaired production of pancreatic digestive enzymes, resulting in poor digestion and malnutrition.

Inadequate digestive enzyme function can be addressed through the use of pancreatin, a pancreas extract from pork (porcine) or beef (bovine) sources that contain lipase, protease, and amylase. Jarro-Zymes® Plus uses only porcine pancreatin, to most closely replicate the body’s own form.*

Pancreatin Use
Pancreatin is a good source of lipase, so it should not come as any surprise that pancreatin supplementation has been found to reduce fat content in stools and improve nutritional status in people with suboptimal pancreatic function.* Other studies have found that people with impaired digestion due to suboptimal pancreatic function experienced improved digestion after supplementation with pancreatin. Similarly in a double-blind study using lipase from pancreatin, healthy individuals had increased digestive comfort after consuming a high-fat meal. Part of pancreatin’s benefits may result from supporting cholecystokinin (CCK) production—an intestinal hormone that stimulates bile secretion and consequent fat digestion. Because pancreatin is rapidly emptied from the stomach during digestion, people taking a digestive enzyme product may obtain better results by spreading out supplementation throughout the meal, if possible.*

Alpha-Galactosidase
Bloating, abdominal distention, and flatulence represent very frequent complaints by those with suboptimal digestive function. Patients frequently associate these symptoms with excessive intestinal gas. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study that focused upon intestinal gas production and gas-related symptoms, the fungal enzyme alpha-galactosidase was evaluated in healthy volunteers. The volunteers ingested 300 or 1200 AGS units of alpha-galactosidase or placebo during a test meal containing 420 g of cooked beans. The alpha-galactosidase groups showed positive results for clinical endpoints like breath hydrogen excretion, severity of bloating, abdominal pain, discomfort, flatulence, and diarrhea. Clearly, alpha-galactosidase promoted digestive function and comfort following a meal rich in fermentable carbohydrates and may be helpful in patients with gas-related symptoms.*

Other Benefits from Jarro-Zymes® Plus
The pancreatin in this product provides proteolytic enzymes (i.e., proteases). In addition to being digestive aids, these proteolytic enzymes are regulators and modulators of the inflammatory response. Many studies have demonstrated the positive effects of proteolytic enzymes on inflammatory health. As such, Jarro-Zymes may offer additional benefits for athletic injuries or other cases where irritation and tenderness are a concern. To achieve these types of proteolytic benefits, the product should be taken on an empty stomach so that the enzymes can be absorbed rather than used in the gut.*

Absorption
One of the knocks against digestive enzymes is that they will succumb to being digested themselves before they can affect digestion. In 1986, Peter Rothschild, M.D. and his colleagues at the Maya Clinic in Mexico demonstrated that digestive enzymes can, in fact, pass through the mucous and submucous layers of the intestines where they are packaged into liposomes. Due to their size, liposomes have very little surface tension and can thus penetrate intestinal layers and reach lymphatic receptors. This allows orally ingested digestive enzymes to be absorbed whole and intact, where they can be re-deployed where needed.

The Seal of Quality
Enzymes are often measured in terms of enzyme activity rather than in terms of simple weight. AGS Units is a measure of starch digesting activity. Each 425 mg capsule of Jarro-Zymes® Plus provides the following:

• Lipase 10,000 USP Units:   capable of digesting 10 grams of fats

• Protease 50,000 USP Units:  capable of digesting 50 grams of milk protein

• Amylase 50,000 USP Units:   capable of digesting 50 grams of dry potato starch

• Alpha-galactosidase 625 AGS Units

Jarro-Zymes® Plus contains porcine pancreatic enzymes because their composition is similar to that of human pancreatic enzymes and they also are superior to vegetable enzymes.* Alpha-galactosidase is produced by single cell fermentation and facilitates the digestion of legumes.*
